A Cowdogs Advice

Grip up, America!

Ladysmith’s Bowser Biscuits

11/08/2020 by ladysmith@cowdogsadvice.com

Well, I think I helped route out that bad virus from here. Mom and Dad are both better. It was scary and I didn’t know what to do; Dad and I didn’t go in the truck every day, and Mom wasn’t outside doing work, and she didn’t go to work either. Seems like the “rules”  were all different depending on who told us, but it all came down to just another nasty germ. I relentlessly encouraged them in good cowdog fashion to get up and get better.

We have another winter storm blowing in. It snowed all night and was knee deep to the deer roaming the yard this morning. I did NOT want to go out and made it fast I tell you! But it was warm inside and mom finally made me biscuits! I know every dog out there will love them, so here is the recipe and my personal preferences.

Dreaming of the biscuits I smell baking.

Mom has a very old recipe, but she always uses what she has on hand and what I like best. If you are allergic to certain grains or other things,  you can use other flours, cereals, grains. I like beef broth and bits of dry beef and blueberries a lot! But today, she added a little chopped bacon and carrots, also very favorites with me.

Mom uses what she has on hand, and what I like best!

We are short on eggs because it is winter and the hens aren’t laying now, but that is the neat thing – really any healthy combination is good , mom says just keep the dry/wet ratio close,  so they can be rolled. Then baking and oven drying makes them hard and crunchy, so they keep well.

Cookie cutters or the faster pizza cutter.

I believe it is my job to make sure they DO NOT last, however. Mom doesn’t have time to make dog biscuits all the time, but she makes sure I know that I am worth it and she would make them more often if she could. The thing is, they are special and a real treat, so I appreciate them when I get them. That is the thing about life – the best things aren’t common, good things are worth waiting for, instant gratification is not. And there is nothing better on a snowy day than the smell and anticipation of my special cookies in the oven! I don’t even have to share them with the cats, but sometimes I do.

I am testing the first fresh biscuits, but I do not like a camera clicking while I eat.

I am so excited, come back next week for the new shop and the grand Dog Tired Bath Salts! You will love them, and mom always sends along free samples, and donates to rescues so other dogs and cats can have treats, too! “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” from Montana!

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
