Last week I told you about my visit to the vet clinic for an annual check-up. It went very well, and Dr Greg was impressed with my excellent condition.
It got me thinking about the healthy highlights my people make to keep me going strong. Even though I am an intelligent and wise old cowdog, sometimes my own choices would not be as good as what I am served.
I know that connoisseurs and caring owners out there think a raw diet is best. I’m pretty discerning myself, most of the time, but I won’t pass up a good pile of aged horse poop either. There is nothing raw and fresh about a seasoned flat filet of road-kill, simmered for days on hot pavement and even fermented to bring out those healthy elements and aroma.
We don’t have pavement here in the foothills, and it hasn’t warmed up enough to find a meal like that anyway.
But speaking of raw – chicken liver makes me gag – leave that for the cats!
Because there are other great Heelers out there who appreciate healthy diets and special supplements, I’ll let you in on all the goodies in my cupboard. We need to stay Cowdog Strong:

Here is a Ladysmith List of healthy highlights:
Longevity –
Early on, I got Longevity on my food. This is a great product from Springtime, Inc.
I’ve been getting it most of my life, and it is an excellent natural insurance.

I can’t say it slows down time, but it feels a little like that.
Springtime Skin and Coat Oil –
I also get a tasty oil from them, that helps my beautiful blue coat and other systems. We notice my famous Heeler shedding has lessened a lot!

My dinner consists of some fresh meat and
Nutra Complete freeze-dried raw mix made by Ultimate Pet Nutrition. It has meat, berries, sweet potatoes, seeds, veggies and herbs. It is great when there isn’t any fresh meat or an assortment of vegetables ready, as a topping or a whole meal.

I get a little dry food for crunch and my supplements cleverly mixed in.
Growing older and a lifetime of chasing cows, falling off four-wheelers, leaping, dancing, jumping and running, has led to some aches and pains. I’m just not as young and spry as I once was.
CBD Oil – Mom was skeptical it would do anything, but it really did help! Order yours from Cannanine, since they donate to shelters with every order, or try this one: https://amzn.to/3Kpn9qO
Boswellia – mom and dad take it, too, when age and wear and tear catches up. That is helpful when I am extra sore, like during a cold winter or when I leap out of the truck before mom gets there to help.
Pupgrade – I hate to admit it, but I notice I am getting weaker in the hips and rear legs – I just don’t have those rock-hard chasing and leaping muscles like I used to! Mom found the best additive and we noticed a real change right away. I can dance and run around a lot better now days. Pupgrade comes in little chewable treats. I, however, do not find them all that tasty and mostly leave them lay, so Mom breaks them up in my dinner instead, and I am okay with that. She is not fooling me of course; I know every single thing that is in my dish! I admit, am so much more comfortable now. I don’t lay in stiff, limited positions anymore. This stuff is great! https://amzn.to/3KoX3ny

Wuffes – this is alternated with the other joint supplement, Pupgrade. Both have the usual Glucosamine and Chondroitan, but also have Green Perna Mussel. Sounds weird and not so edible, I know, but it definitely brings back my aerial dances and fast Heeler moves. https://amzn.to/3xdHwTY
There is a liquid form also, that I’m trying now.
In the morning I enjoy a dental stick and a few breakfast cookies. I’ve been cut back on other treats because of that pesky winter weight and Dad being a soft touch when I bark at him for treats. With the warmer weather, I will try to get out and explore more.
I am getting a nice long ramp, too, that will make it easier to get up the steps when it’s chilly out, or I am older.
So there are a few simple healthy highlights to turn back the clock a bit, for any old cowdog.
