He Leads Me Beside Still Waters

I’ve been thinking a lot about water lately. Regular readers may have noticed this theme has been swimming through recent posts. It has to be on everyone’s mind more now, either because there is none, or there is too much!

Drought or flood

I came from the desert, but I am a confirmed water dog! I love having creeks, ponds, rain and sprinklers!

We  found this neat sprinkler; not only does it soak the flowers and vegetables well, it does so with style and panache – exactly the kind of thing a joyful cowdog can get behind – or under, really. I can walk by it to cool my paws, after walking on the dust-dry road that is searing hot underfoot. It is truly refreshing to run through, and peaceful to watch. We like the gentle, but thorough pattern of water. https://amzn.to/3etuIyD

She also found a beautiful tall copper sprinkler. I think there are too many choices and I just go down to the creek instead!

Thinking about just how important and useful water is, I find it impossible to believe this whole carefully balanced world came about with a big bang. Somewhere out it the dark and dry reaches of space,  a cataclysmic accident gave me, a happy Heeler in Montana, springs of cold water, a stream to lay in, rain on the fields?

Only a creator could look ahead and thread such a life-giving, life-sustaining necessary thing as water through time and this world, right down to this spot in time, for this dog.

Some places have a real shortage now, what I hear called a drought.  Up here, this year we have been blessed with plenty, even on through the summer. It just rained this week, the result, I hear, of a hurricane many miles away. For them, it brought flash floods and too much. And here, every day is hazy, with forest fires ranging to the west and up north.  Thunderstorms always threaten more with lightening.

I can smell the smoke sometimes, and it is scary.

Fire, smoke and haze

I see other places, far away in the south, have too much rain, along with flooding. Isn’t it odd how the same life-affirming and vital element can turn both ways into trouble? It is in these times where faith grows.

The lakes are full around here.  Boating is not my favorite thing, but I do admit having a good life jacket has given me a new-found confidence in the water. My old friend Piper turned super-water-dog when he got his. His confidence and enjoyment soared!

Give this a try – it will be like a super-hero’s cape for your dog, even if they aren’t water-pups now. Here is the one I wear https://amzn.to/36HWinw

Here is a fun one for your land shark, too – https://amzn.to/3reSjbB

We have an icy stream meandering through the place, but if I need a drink without leaving the house, mom found this neat fountain for me. It keeps the water cool and fresh, and I like the sound too, like my own little secret spring – https://amzn.to/2VTC5cj

The cats like it, too!

And look at the ice cubes she makes! They look like little dog paws and bones;  she plans to get another one because we use them up fast in this heat –https://amzn.to/3B6jZUq

I think we could make dog treats in these, too.

The horses love their tank full of cold spring water when they come down from the high country.

And the cows like to cool in the creek.

This cowdog knows how to keep cool, too, gladly not working in the heat of the day, except maybe chasing an errant horse once in awhile.

I pray for rain for some, no flooding for some, and pray for hay. It all works out.

I think I’ll wade in the creek today, too.

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
