There is a lot to question about this new month.
While we’ve enjoyed a long and balmy Indian Summer so far, I hear it’s taking a turn this weekend, with a little cold and even maybe snow!

It is supposed to straighten up a bit next week, but I can’t deny what is coming.

October can be cruel and capricious, sometimes wonderful. It is all gold and harvest time.

I do not like that night of grinning pumpkins and skeletons though – good thing it doesn’t happen out here in the country – I’d have to bark and bite a lot that night!

But this is a grand month. By my calculations, it is my birthday month! I don’t remember of course, but my doctor calculated my age when I arrived here – so it seems we should celebrate my 5th birthday about now.

Of course we celebrate a Gotcha Day for me in the Spring.

But I kind of like festivities this month too, because it is the time we commemorate my late dad’s birthday. So I’ll take up his day, and have steak in remembrance for him.

While I invite you all to enjoy my birthday with me, there are other many days that are good cause to celebrate.

Most importantly, all month is Adopt a Shelter Dog month!

Get out there, find a shelter dog, and make him a steak dinner and cake – and the gift of a forever home.

Today is Canine Compnaion Day, and soon is the Blessing of the Animals at the Feast of St Francis.

Keep the party going with National Pet Wellness month, and – in the same period – the slightly offensive National Pet Obesity Awareness month!

Although I suppose with all this celebrations, this stocky stock dog better watch my furry waist too!
There are days for Pit Bulls, black dogs, hermit crabs, and Catober. I’ve never noticed the cats were very interested in people-planned gala, but maybe they do if it involves catnip.

Next week there is a National Walk Your Dog Day. I don’t take formal walks guiding my person on a leash, mostly just moseying around my country, or riding the four-wheeler with the boss.

What do I want for my birthday you ask?
I want every shelter pet, every homeless lost and alone creature, to have a loving home and safe place to live.

When I go out walking in my autumn world, that is what I dream of.

Oh, and there’s always bears to find too!

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. – Psalm 36:6
