A Cowdogs Advice

Grip up, America!

A Heeler’s Observations on a Reluctant Spring

05/30/2024 by ladysmith@cowdogsadvice.com

I love snow. I am tired of the snow.

I love mud. I’ve had enough already.

The creek is finally back in it’s banks, much easier to cross and to wade in.

But it is still cold, and my legs go numb!

The cows and horses just want to look for green grass – there is no work here for cowdog skills.

Only 2 weeks ago, we had 2 feet of snow. Last Sunday it snowed. And there is still  frost most mornings.

I know I said I choose whatever God sends for the day, but, if you’re listening God,

a little sunshine and warmth would sure be a blessing!

Then suddenly, one morning…

leaves burst forth from every tree.

Even the Aspen, from a hint of greening for days, have now disappeared under their leafy load.

The creek, glistening in the sun, gurgles happily, politely within its banks.

Daffodils are blooming, and dandelions.

Down in town, the lilacs are starting, and ours will too, in a couple of weeks. Apple trees and June-berries are starting to bloom.

The grass grows rampant up the hills, so green it hurts my eyes – making  everyone – from deer to cows – very happy.

Suddenly – good, bad, the unexpected – the world turns on a dime,

or on the unseen plan of the Creator.

I’m going outside now, to get a drink and a wade the stream, then get in some sunning on the bank.

And next week, I’ll tell you about my adventures with bears!

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
