A Cowdogs Advice

Grip up, America!

A day like today

A Day Like Today

04/29/2022 by ladysmith@cowdogsadvice.com

With the barely contained exuberance of a Heeler, I say there has never been a day like today. Of course, joyful me can say that every day!

In spite of the rain – which is actually a cause for celebration, given the drought of the past year.

In spite of the snow, which I am truly getting a little tired. Though I still appreciate the precipitation, and the barely -cold -enough-to-snow winter wonderland – again. I can tell you the many small songbirds and every one else does not.

In spite of the mud – another round of mud and pebbles, squishing between my toes.

In spite of it all this is a great day to celebrate. Let me explain.

I said last post that there should be a National Heeler Day; we generally ensure, in our respective families, to make sure the family celebrates the world’s best dog every day. But this week, there was the National Prime Rib Day, and that clearly is the day to party with the pup! I can smell the grilling steak now, and everyone should be enjoying a big juicy one with the cowdog. That was April 27th, so maybe a big weekend party, huh?

Also on the 27th was the International Guide Dog Day, another reason to celebrate another kind of grand working dog.

Here’s 2 reasons to take your dog to dinner on the 28th – Stop Food Waste Day [give it to the dog]

and National Kids and Pets Day – surely that is a day of babysitting, herding, nipping, teaching, protecting, making memories all around.

The 29th acknowledges National Hairball Awareness Day and I am not making that up. But then even the cats need to take care of their health and be aware of dangers. There is nothing worse than watching and hearing the cat trying to barf up a big fuzzy ball of – yuuUUCK! Cat hair!

Finally, April 30th, is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.

Texas Cattle Dog Rescue                                                                Pacific Northwest Cattle Dog Rescue

Now there is one we can all get behind. I’ve told the story of my early shelter days and rescue, so many years ago. As long as there is one dog or cat left there, please adopt. You can read my story here: https://cowdogsadvice.com/2021/05/rescue-a-cow-dog-today/

So go ahead, adopt a cowdog and share a steak!

I’ve been working hard on some future projects and am going to give you a private sneak peak about one of my books:

is for magnificent, memorable and mighty

is for reliable, rugged and relentless

is for funny, faithful, friend, forever

I wonder if there is a Hug Your Dog Day? On a day like today, there should be. Hug them while you have the chance.

And pick up my sazzy shirt design, Heeler Heart and Soul, right beside you forever:

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
