A Cowdogs Advice

Grip up, America!

Just You Wait

Just You Wait

04/23/2026 by ladysmith@cowdogsadvice.com

We has such beautiful weather for a few days! I went swimming, then laying the warm sun. Then even needed a bit of shade.

But then, another winter struck – cold rain turning to snow, even winter storm warnings in the high country.

We got enough snow this week to build snow men and to make dog snow angels.

So this old dog waits for Spring again. The daffodils, just starting to bloom, are crushed by snow, recover and wait again for enough sun and warmth to bloom.

We tarry, full of hope and trust in the direction the world turns, as it always has – no ice age will start this Spring!

It seems waiting patiently is a lost skill among you humans however.

If anyone has 5 minutes without direction, they whip out the phone to mindlessly stare and scroll.

Waiting used to be valuable time redirected to reading, humming, singing,  praying. The time was used for making lists, visiting, reflecting, remembering.

I know that drab time you waste staring at a screen could certainly be better used petting a dog, taking photos of a dog, playing with the dog, thinking about that dog!

Or humming, reading, praying.

Now it may seem odd to hear about patiently waiting from a Heeler such as myself.

After all, we are not known  for patience. I have perfected yip-yapping, whining, all sorts of singing; I can carry a note in an elegant low trill as long as it takes to get response!

I paw, claw, and leap to urge human compliance.

And yet, we possess a special forbearance that is in short supply these days.

A Heeler will wait and stare far-off.

A Heeler can lay in the shade, catch a nap, waiting.

A Heeler will wait by the truck a long time.

I will wait for you always – to get up, to smile, to play.

For a ride, a treat, to share dinner.

While you cry, during a storm,

when you are lonely.

Yup, the Heeler still waits.

We know how to make use of every precious minute, and our waiting makes the world a better place; perhaps we need to remind others how to hum, pray, visit and reflect again. How to put the phone down.

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word, I put my hope.” – Psalm 130:5

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
