Well, we’ve had a nasty blast of winter; not just snow, but very cold.
On those days I stay in near the fire, and have plenty of time to think.
I’ve come up with a few more lessons from the Heeler, another cheerful dose of old dog wisdom.
Ask any cowdog – we have plenty of advice, most of it good, so here’s some more:
Find something to love in every season.
Patrol and guard your territory and your own.
Learn to herd – sometimes with finesse, sometimes with power.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Perfect your tricks in order to get treats – and be discerning in those treats.
Always treat your people with love – learn to sit in silence, stay close, nuzzle gently.
Help the young’uns – canine and human; even cats, if they’ll let you.
Take care of your toys, even after you’ve gutted them – and keep an orderly toybox.
Be honest, steadfast and kind whenever you can.
This is a brief season, before the holiday rush, before the deep winter. A pause to practice all the best from a Heeler heart.
