A Cowdogs Advice

Grip up, America!

Resolution and revolution again

01/07/2022 by ladysmith@cowdogsadvice.com

It was a wonderful Christmas season. It is best if you get to watch kids and puppies enjoy the season. I got a new bone and treats, and the cats got a funny feathery bird on a string; it is hilarious to watch them try to catch it! Cats like to think they are so sophisticated, but in reality – show them a catnip-scented feather – and they have no dignity.

It has been very cold. First we got a lot of wind and blowing snow, then the wind quit and the temperature dropped like a giant icicle off the roof.

I hurry out to take care of business, then bark to get in quick. I’m sorry to say I haven’t gone out to help mom with chores as much, but it is below zero and paws freeze quick! But  she  can  chop  ice  for  the  cows  to  drink  without  my  help, though  in  better  weather  I go  along  to  guard  her  in  the  dark  woods.

The wild turkeys and deer come in close every morning, hunger overcoming any fear they have of us. After the long drought last summer, I suppose there is very little left to eat in the woods; they have learned through the years to come in and join the chickens and stock for dinner anyway.

I show mercy to the wild critters and do not bark at them.

Turkeys come down from the mountain in the fall, and stick around through the worst of winter.

A year ago, I wrote about the promises people make around now. Resolutions to do better, be better, make a change for good. This scrappy Heeler misunderstood and thought people were talking  revolution instead! Both may  be a good idea!

You can read that here: https://cowdogsadvice.com/2021/01/resolution-revolution-revival/

We’ll take a look at resolution, revolution and revival again, because I think it is always necessary to step up, grip up, fight for right. It is not just a January 1st thing. I’m still working on my warrior soul.

These days, every new day seems to add to an avalanche of destruction. Truth is given up to drama and falsities.  I hear the TV droning endlessly, mostly about that darn virus, and all they are really saying is : ” if I say it, that makes it true.”  Even when it is lying.

Best read and research for yourself. Doubt most of what you are told by politicians and media. Learn from history, don’t pretend you can – or should – change it. Look back at all the previous pandemics, and find that they generally go on for a few years with a few variants.

Like most good cowdogs, I am a warrior at heart. I know what is right, true and good.

I will fight to defend that and my people until my last breath. Sometimes a warrior is called to fight.

Sometimes, being a warrior means just staying the course with extreme self-discipline, holding in your own soul the knowledge of right and wrong, showing and practicing it. Like I said, I work on my warrior soul every day.

I say everyone’s resolution must be to practice a Warrior Reserve mentality.  It should be honorable, merciful, generous to others. Don’t be afraid to take a stand, don’t cower before artificial attacks designed to cancel positive standards.

No matter what others may say, seek higher moral ground as a regular practice this new year.  Good exercise, climbing that hill.

But how do we do that? It is easy these days to be chill, casual, lazy. Self-discipline has given way to selfishness.

I think a big dose of Heeler discipline is in order, for everyone. It helps to have a guidebook. Mom says the bible is a good manual.

Exercise body, mind and soul.

Stick to a routine, do your best. Keep going on that right path, grit it out, don’t give up. Raise the bar and expect better of yourself, then be that better you.

So my resolution is: be honorable, show mercy, and always show generosity to others. Stand up and be assertive for the truth and right, but be kind, too. Do not bow down to anyone who seek to damage or destroy yourself or your liberty.

I will strive to strengthen a positive, caring, joyful character. I will keep the Warrior ready when I must stand up for goodness and for others.  I will think about it every morning, and remember to practice it every day, and I will be a better dog.

We need a miracle and a revival of honor, truth and mercy.  Like a cowdog, think on and practice all that is right and true.  And every new day that we get to see dawn is a chance to practice.

Welcome!

I am Ladysmith, a Blue Heeler. I live in central Montana with the people I rescued; my dad, a crusty old cowboy who swore he would never have another dog last time, but has been completely smitten by me ever since we met. My mom, a kind writer and artist, who knows I am a angel sent from heaven, and helps me with this endeavor.
