When I was young, like most cow dogs, I was sometimes impetuous, did things my own way, didn’t listen to direction and was too exuberant. Oh yes, it was joy de vivre, but sometimes run amuck. Just like I learned how to turn a herd, direct them through a gate, and contain them in the right corner of a pasture, I learned to turn energy to a solid purpose. I directed my thought and action to the right cause, I contained myself in the right place. I became an effective and real good cow dog. One could do worse with their one short precious life.
I watch the world today, so much anger, burning, looting, rioting. It is a loss of direction and purpose. Reason is skewed, distorted, lost. I would like to go to those cities with my Heeler friends, where a few nips and talented herding would make a change. People need to straighten up, learn some civility, show mercy and kindness – in all directions. How are people higher up the the order of the world, when we dogs know and practice those rules?
Grip up, America!
