It is a capricious spring weather week here for us; I laid on the porch and watched snow, wind, sunshine, snow, white-out, wind, sun, and big-flaked straight down snow – again. It has been very cold for this time of year , below zero – again.
But when I hear the news, I have to be happy we have food, clothes, heat – and a house we don’t need to leave because tanks are rolling up the road. Freezing, fear and prayer.
This weekend, Daylight Savings Time means the clock gets turned ahead one hour. It seems a silly thing right now, to worry about what we call the hour. I’ve never understood how changing what you call it “saves daylight.” Seems to this dog that we get the same moments of sunshine and moonlight, pre-determined by God – no matter what it is called. But mercifully, this time of year, those moments are ever-increasing in light. I like earlier mornings and long sunsets.
It is sad to hear about war, invasion, bombing, fighting. There are bullies that think they have a right to steal another’s home and land. They are self-serving tyrants that will not allow others to live peaceably. I see people fleeing in freezing cold, hungry, afraid, leaving it all behind.
But when the worst shows up, it also brings out the best. Large and small acts of kindness and aid are everywhere. Lots of prayers.

I am happy to be able to have my home, my own bed, my dish, even my cats.
Remember this:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it, and then hand it to them with the well fought lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don’t do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free. – Ronald Reagan, 1961
What can we do? Pray without ceasing. Stay strong and aware. Donate, volunteer, vote. And defend freedom whenever possible – including your own. Because the least small freedom, lost to corrupt tyrants – is a grave threat to all other freedom, everywhere, for everyone.
